Home Up Eliyahu Lesson 1 Eliyahu Lesson 2 Eliyahu Lesson 3 Eliyahu Lesson 4 Eliyahu Lesson 5 Eliyahu Lesson 6 Eliyahu Lesson 7 Eliyahu Lesson 8 Eliyahu Lesson 9 Eliyahu Lesson 10

We have used the same scriptures for Eliyahu Lesson 2 as we used for Eliyahu Lesson 1.

1 Kings 17:1 Eliyahu from Tishbe, an inhabitant of Gil'ad, said to Ach'av, "As Yahovah the G-d of Isra'el lives, before whom I stand, there will be neither rain nor dew in the years ahead unless I say so."

2 Then the word of Yahovah came to him: 3 "Leave here, turn to the east, and hide in Vadi K'rit near the Yarden. 4 You are to drink from the stream, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there." 5 So he went and acted according to the word of Yahovah - he went and lived in Vadi K'rit near the Yarden. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the stream. 7 After a while the stream dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

8 Then this word of Yahovah came to him: 9 "Get up; go to Tzarfat, a village in Tzidon; and live there. I have ordered a widow there to provide for you." 10 So he set out and went to Tzarfat. On reaching the gate of the city, he saw a widow there gathering sticks. He called out to her, "Please bring a little water in a container for me to drink." 11 As she was going to get it, he called after her, "Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand." 12 She answered, "As Yahovah your G-d lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a pot and a little oil in the jug. Here I am, gathering a couple sticks of wood, so that I can go and cook it for myself and my son. After we have eaten that, we will die." 13 Eliyahu said to her, "Don't be afraid. Go; and do what you said; but first, use a little of it to make me a small loaf of bread; and bring it out to me. After that, make food for yourself and your son. 14 For this is what Yahovah the G-d of Isra'el, says: 'The pot of meal will not get used up, nor will there fail to be oil in the jug, until the day Yahovah sends rain down on the land.'" 15 She went and acted according to what Eliyahu had said; and she, he and her household had food to eat for a long time. 16 The pot of meal did not get used up, nor did there fail to be oil in the jug, in fulfillment of the word of Yahovah spoken through Eliyahu.

17 A while later, the son of the woman whose house it was fell ill; his illness grew increasingly serious until his breathing stopped. 18 She said to Eliyahu, "What do you have against me, you man of G-d? Did you come to me just to remind me how sinful I am by killing my son?" 19 "Give me your son," he said to her. Taking him from her lap, he carried him into the room upstairs where he was staying and laid him on his own bed. 20 Then he cried out to Yahovah: "Yahovah my G-d! Have you brought also this misery on the widow I'm staying with by killing her son?" 21 He stretched himself out on the child three times and cried out to Yahovah: "Yahovah my G-d, please! Let this child's soul come back into him!" 22 Yahovah heard Eliyahu's cry, the child's soul came back into him, and he revived. 23 Eliyahu took the child, brought him down from the upstairs room into the house and gave him to his mother; and Eliyahu said, "See? Your son is alive." 24 The woman replied to Eliyahu, "Now I know that you are a man of G-d and that the word of Yahovah that you speak is the truth."

     1.  Eliyahu means "my G-d is Yahu."  Yah is a proper noun.  Yahu means our Yah.  We see in the Tanahk, the Father's name as Y'ah spelled by the Hebrew letters yud and hay or Yahovah spelled by the letters Yud Hay Vuv Hay.  So, we have the y,h,v,and h consonants in his name.  Vowels were not in the written bible text.  We cannot know the correct pronunciation.  Why is Jehovah NOT the correct pronunciation of the Hebrew name of G-d?  For a more definitive answer, go to our page about G-d's name by clicking here

      2.  Eliyahu was able to stand before the king of Israel, Ach'av.  Has Yahovah positioned you to speak to any leaders with a prophetic, corrective, or encouraging word?  What characteristics of Eliyahu could we build into our own lifestyle so that we would be used more by Yahovah to bring people closer to him?

3. We don't see any hesitation or arguing when Eliyahu hears from Yahovah.  He hears and acts. When someone calls you on the phone you recognize a familiar voice.  You should recognize your Father Yahovah's voice.  Ask Yahovah to help you to listen more effectively.  Take time to be totally quiet in your prayer time and to be Yahovah conscious throughout your day.  How can you know, because you know, because you know, you have heard from Yahovah?

4. I once knew a lady who witnessed to a non-believer about Yeshua.  She had prayed for his deaf ears and he received all of his hearing.  In her enthusiasm, she asked him if he was ready to accept "Jesus," (they were both Gentiles).  He said, "No."  What does the widow say when her son is healed?  Was Yahovah her god before the healing? Afterwards, is her first thought to give credit to Yahovah? What should we do that is different from new age practitioners before we pray for someone?

5.  Eliyahu said to Ach'av "As Yahovah the God of Isra'el lives, before whom I stand, there will be neither rain nor dew in the years ahead unless I say so."  Eliyahu speaks with authority and confidence.  He doesn't water down the proclamation of his assignment.  About eleven years ago a single woman left the U.S. to start Messianic Congregations in Latvia.  She went by herself because she KNEW G-d told her to go. There were many skeptics. Before she went there, there were no Messianic groups in the whole country. Now there are at least six groups. She was involved in starting three and the other three were established by encouragement of the first congregations. Are other people skeptical about your assignment?  What helps you to be able to stay focused on Yahovah's goal?

6.  Sometimes, perhaps we forget that our manufacturer can surely repair us.  He made us: He can fix us. We know that the same spirit that raised Yeshua from the dead can heal our bodies.  Eliyahu stretched himself out on a child three times and cried out to Yahovah: "Yahovah my G-d, please! Let this child's soul come back into him and the child's soul came back into him, and he revived. We know that Yeshua was able to raise the dead back to life.  Here is a common person, who prays to Yahovah and watches as the dead person's soul returns to his body.  How many times have you been to the doctor this year?  What can you do to save time and money the next time you get ill or injured?  What causes you to hesitate when you KNOW that Yahovah is telling you to pray for someone that is ill or has been injured? How can you overcome the hesitancy?

        7.  After the boy had died, Eliyahu took the boy away from his mother and took him to an upper room.  Sometimes when we pray for the sick, we need to either remove ourselves from people who have unbelief or tell them we want to be alone with the person for whom we are praying. When would this  be inappropriate? What can you do if people are present who do not believe that Yahovah is able to heal?

        8.  Yahovah  told Eliyahu that he had ordered ravens to feed him and they did.  Can you name three other times in the Holy Scriptures when animals helped to fulfill Yahovah 's plans in unusual ways.  Was each time before or after The Flood?  Can Yahovah  use animals in unusual ways today?

9.  Speaking to the widow, Eliyahu said, "this is what Yahovah the God of Isra'el, says:"  Eliyahu knew Yahovah 's voice and quoted him.   Has Yahovah ever told you to speak specific words to someone?  Were you bold enough to say, "this is what Yahovah says?"  What was it? What was the person's reaction?

10.  In studying Eliyahu so far, what is the most important trait that you have noticed in him that you would like to emulate?

Spend a few minutes now meditating and praying about any issues that the Ruach Hakodesh (Holy Spirit) brought to your heart while taking this first Yeshua Connection study.
